It sounds like the resolution of your display changed when the laptop was closed. It may be as simple as setting the resolution to your liking.
Since you listed Compaq (the manufacturer of your laptop) in “Window version” instead of XP, Vista or 7, follow the directions for which version of Windows you actually have. To find your version of windows go to Start, and right-click on either “My Computer” or “Computer” and select properties. Read which version of windows you have on the System Properties window then close.
Windows XP:
On the Display Properties Window select the Settings Tab.
Change the Resolution drop down slider a little and select Apply.
If it looks good, you’re done, if not, pick another resolution and try again.
Windows Vista/7:
On the Screen Resolution Window change the screen resolution slider a little and select Apply.
If it looks good, you’re done, if not, pick another resolution and try again.
